Technology-based crisis response strategies

Last year, I was invited to give a keynote in one of the biggest Latin American Open Source conferences:Latinoware 2014. I decided to discuss technology-based crisis response strategies based on open source.

In crisis situations such as Ebola in Africa and the destruction of Haiti, technology often plays an important role in containing the crisis or contingency. In this talk, the goal was to present some free open source software projects that have been used to save lives of children, families, and entire populations in emergency situations.

In the context of these projects, I explained the importance of agile principles, so the projects can be adapted and readily available for supporting crisis solutions. We encourage governments to adopt this kind of strategy to ensure population’s welfare.
